The fifth edition of the AO Spine Latin America Regional Courses will be held in Bogota, in November 2021. The Fellows & Ex-Fellows Meeting will feature for the first time conferences given by our fellowship programs participants and former participants. It is a great opportunity to highlight the scientific production that are being carried out in different countries in the region.

Requirements

Submitting the abstract in due time
Having an active AO Spine membership on the date of submission
Being an AO Spine fellow or ex-fellow (from 2017 to 2021)
The presenter must be an AO Spine fellow or ex-fellow



Abstract presentation and e-posters

Oral Presentation:

Selected abstracts will be presented during the Fellows & Ex-Fellows Meeting. Presenters are required to assemble a PowerPoint presentation.

e-Poster Viewing:

All abstracts submitted and approved will be available as posters (displayed as digital e-posters using high-definition monitors).



Typing instructions

  • Abstracts may only be submitted in English.
  • Abstract texts may only be uploaded as .doc, .docx or .rtf files (max. file size: 1500KB).
  • E-posters must be submitted as .ppt or .pptx files.
  • The submitter will not automatically be the first author. If the submitter is also an author, please add his or her name and affiliation in the correct position.
  • Abstracts will be published as submitted by the corresponding author. It is the author’s responsibility to submit a revised abstract. Any errors in spelling, grammar or scientific facts in the text will be reproduced as typed by the author. The list of authors will be published exactly as submitted. Be sure that names and order are correct.
  • Submission of the abstract constitutes the authors' consent to publication (e.g. Global Spine Journal, abstract book on CD or Pen drive, website, programs, other promotion, etc.).
  • The abstract submitter warrants and represents that he or she is the sole owner or has the rights of all the information and content. The publication of the abstract does not infringe any third party rights including, but not limited to, intellectual property rights.
  • The abstract submitter grants the organizers a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable nonexclusive license to use, reproduce, publish, translate, distribute, and display the content.
  • Abstracts must not exceed 500 words. This does not include the title, authors’ details, acknowledgements, references, or captions. The abstract body must be uploaded as a text-only file; title, authors and affiliation must be entered only in the e-mail. Click here to download the abstract template.
  • The following subdivisions of your abstract are MANDATORY:
    - Introduction;
    - Materials and methods;
    - Results;
    - Conclusion.
  • There are no restrictions on the number of abstracts you may submit.
  • One person may deliver a maximum of one (1) podium presentation at the meeting.
  • It is permitted to be a co-author of an unlimited number of abstracts.
  • Figures and tables are not permitted.
  • The abstracts must be sent by e-mail to [email protected].



Selection Process

  • Each abstract will be reviewed and evaluated by 3 different experts, according to several criteria.
  • The 10 best papers will be selected to be presented orally at the podium during the Fellows Meeting.
  • Participants will be solely responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs and expenses.
  • Works not selected will be considered as e-posters and they will be displayed during the Regional Course on screens located within the exhibition area. Click here to download the e-poster template in PowerPoint (PPTX) format.

    E-poster specifications:
    - Orientation: landscape (in PDF, single-page only, max. 10MB).
    - 16:9 ratio PowerPoint
    - E-posters must be written in English



Notification of acceptance

  • Notifications of acceptance or rejection will be sent to the corresponding author (the submitter) of the abstract by August 1st at the latest.
  • The corresponding author will receive all correspondence concerning the abstract. The corresponding author is responsible for informing all other co-authors of the status of the abstract. In order to receive confirmation, please ensure that e-mails from [email protected] are not marked as spam by your e-mail provider.
  • All abstract presenters will be asked to confirm their attendance again after receiving the notification. If you don't confirm your abstract presentation again before October 3rd, your abstract submission will be cancelled.



Presentation of abstracts

  • The submission of an abstract constitutes a formal commitment by the presenting author to present the abstract orally (if accepted) or as an e-poster in the session and the time assigned by the committee.
  • During the meeting, the author will have 7 minutes to present his or her work.
  • For oral presentations or short talks, disclosure must be included after the first/title slide.
  • The presentations will be evaluated by a committee, which will have a ratings checklist graded 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.

Abstract awards

  • All abstract presenters are automatically entered in the competition for the abstract awards.
  • The 10 selected abstracts will win a Regional Course registration.
  • All presenters will receive a Master Series Book


The best two presenters will be awarded with one AO Spine Specimen Course registration each.
  • Both winners may present their research during the Plenary Session of the Regional Course.
  • The winners will be announced on-site at the end of the meeting.
  • The award to the best e-poster will be sent electronically after the congress.


Trade names

Only generic names for drugs, tools, etc. may be used and must not refer to any trade name.



Release Policy – Declaration

By confirming the presentation of your abstract, you are accepting the release policy – declaration:

“I grant AO Spine the right to use the media, biographical information and information including, without limitation, the right to edit, promote, copy and advertise all such items in any educational, editorial, broad-cast or other program or material whatsoever. The authors will be acknowledged on use of such materials.

I hereby release and hold harmless AO Spine and any of their principals, agents, servants, employees, officers, directors, licensees, distribution and/or editing personnel in the use whatsoever of such items as listed above.

I acknowledge and agree that I am entitled to no compensation for the use of such materials.

The consent and releases granted herein are worldwide and without time limitations.

This document shall form a part of any agreement between the undersigned for the purposes described above.”
