AOSpine Regional Courses
AOSpine Regional Courses . November 3-5 . Bogotá, Colombia

At AOSpine Latin America, we are very excited for our main event of this year: the “AOSpine Regional Courses”. The event that will be held in Bogotá, Colombia, on November 3-5 of 2016, aims to become an annual occurrence in Latin America by bringing together spine experts to participate in high quality trainings on the latest concepts of management and treatment of column pathologies.

The AOSpine Regional Courses will be composed by a seminar on research implemented by Dr. José Jimenez, a course on principles directed by Dr. Fernando Alvarado and symposia on Trauma, Tumor, Degenerative and Deformities respectively directed by Dr. Luiz Vialle, Dr. William Teixeira and Marcelo Gruenberg.

In particular, the Symposium on Trauma will dedicate a special moment for Latin American doctors to validate the classification of thoracolumbar and cervical spine fractures. Thus, enabling the development of research projects in partnership with the Trauma Knowledge Forums.

In addition to our faculty, the event will also count with the participation of world main experts on spine pathologies such as Carlo Bellabarba, Christopher Shaffrey, Cumhur Oner, Daniel Riew, Giovanni Barbanti, Kenneth Cheung, Klaus Schnake and Laurence Rhines.

We are confident that the AOSpine Regional Courses will match your expectations and will contribute to generate opportunities for expanding your network.

We look forward to meeting you in Bogotá in November 2016.

Annual Report 2015

At AOSpine Latin America we are pleased to share with the spine community our 2015 annual report. Last year was a year with great results in which we were able to keep promoting high quality educational and research activities while increasing the number of our members.

We hope that the division of the volume into five main categories - Governance, Community Development, Research, Fellowships and Spine Centers - will contribute to facilitate access to our data and activities. Finally, we would like to thank our faculty and participants for their commitment. We wouldn´t have been able to achieve such results without your contributions.

We invite you to download the annual report.

Alberto Ofenhejm Gotfryd, Jose Alfredo Corredor, William Jacobsen Teixeira, Delio Eulálio Martins, Jeronimo Milano and Alexandre Sadao Lutaka for the publication of the article “Assessment of a Learning Strategy among Spine Surgeons”. The article "Why and how should we measure outcomes in spine surgery?" is the result of a successful collaboration between AOSpine members from Latin America and the Middle East. Despite the distance the authors Alisson R. Teles, MDa, Khalid I. Khoshhal, ABOSb and Asdrubal Falavigna, PhDa, were able to achieve a great result.

Fellowship AOSpine
AOSpine Latin America invites all its members to enroll to the 2017 Fellowship Program.

The program aims at offering orthopedist and neurosurgeons a further experience to improve their knowledge and techniques.

"Two years ago when I was in the last stage of my medical residency in orthopedic- traumatology, I was anxious to make a further step in my career. While I was looking for opportunities in various offices and websites I noticed that all that mattered were costs and money, which I did not have. During those days of resignation, […] I was informed about the AOSpine Foundation. I saw a light of hope to make my so desired step. After receiving a positive response via e-mail, accepting my application to a Fellowship in Latin America, courage and confidence came back to me. This is how I walked into a new experience.

The fellowship in spine surgery in the two centers "Hospital Militar Central and Instituto Rossevelt" was a unique experience that allowed me to learn a lot, because it permitted me to participate in all those column surgical clinical activities which I did not know about. During my fellowship, I also had the opportunity to meet with many people that became an example to follow as persons and professionals.

Upon returning to my home country, I felt that the fellowship changed my way of thinking while giving me solid surgical skills. I am confident that those elements will be very beneficial for my patients and colleagues. At the end of the day, I didn´t know how to thank for the opportunity I was given. The only thing left we can do is to give our best in all aspects to improve the lives of our patients."

Live Tissue Course, Curitiba. April 1-2 of 2016
"The Live Tissue Course was a priceless experience. The workshops allow professionals to consolidate their theoretical knowledge through practice. By doing so, professionals are benefiting their patients by learning how to precede complications that may occur during surgery. In addition, the course also creates opportunities where participants learn surgical tips from each other while creating bonds of friendship."

Dr. Henry Li | Neurosurgeon, Peru
"The course was interesting and important in order to familiarize with surgical techniques that surgeons use in their daily activities. The quality and quantity of material used for the practice and the combinations teachers-participants were very well suited."
