AOSpine Latin America is pleased to announce the results of the elections for the Education, Community Development and Spine Centers & Fellowships Officers position. Respectively, these roles are currently held by Néstor Taboada (CO), his term ends in June 2020, Jaime Segura (CO) and Emiliano Vialle (BR), whose term end June 2019.
Meet the elected for the AOSpine Latin America Regional Board:
Luiz Gustavo Dal Oglio da Rocha (BR), who will hold the position of Education-elect from July 1st, 2019 until July 1st, 2020, when he assumes the position for 3 years.
Michael Dittmar (MX) was elected for the Community Development position. He will hold the position for 3 years, starting his duties from July 1st, 2019 until June 30, 2022.
Fernando Alvarado (CO) was elected for the Spine Centers & Fellowships position. He also will hold the position for 3 years, starting his duties from July 1st, 2019 until June 30, 2022.
The applications were reviewed by the nomination committee, formed by Roberto Chapa (MX), Osmar Moraes (BR), and Marcelo Valacco (AR). The entire electoral process was ratified by the nomination committee and it was held according to the criteria and requirement of the AOSpine Template of Governance.

Applications for the AOSpine Latin America Fellowship Program 2020 are open. As the leading global academic community for innovative education, AOSpine invests heavily in the various forms of long- and short-term fellowship programs and observation opportunities. The program provides an additional improvement experience for orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons interested in spine surgery. It is an opportunity to learn the principles, designations, planning, techniques, and complications related to spine surgery. As a Fellow you can take advantage of all aspects and benefits offered by the program throughout the worldwide AOSpine network.
You can benefit from two specific programs developed to give you the opportunity to learn the principles of spine surgery or to develop a specific skill:
Short-term fellow: Training aimed at surgeons with more than one year of experience in spine surgery who want to improve a specific technique or further their knowledge. You must be an AOSpine member for at least three years by the subscription deadline to apply.
Length: 1, 2, 3 or 6 months.
Enrollment: Online application from May to August, click here.
Associate fellow: The fellows already accepted at an AOSpine Center are entitled to join the community as an Associate Fellow.
Length: 12 to 24 months (according to the Spine Center rules).
Enrollment: The participants must follow the selection process of the institution of interest. Once started program in a relevant institution, interested fellows must fulfill the application form available on our website. It must be filled only after being accepted in a fellow program of an AOSpine Center.

The newest Global Spine Journal Special Issue “AOSpine Knowledge Forums: Driving Research, Discovery, and Innovation in Spine” featuring articles from each of the AOSpine Knowledge Forums is now available to read online!
This issue was led by GSJ Deputy Editor and AOSpine Research Commission Chair, Dino Samartzis, PhD. Samartzis has said of the issue “This special focus issue highlights some of the recent work by AOSpine’s Knowledge Forums. The Knowledge Forums are pathology-based study groups led by some of the world’s leading clinical experts in their respective fields. These groups are a perfect example that by international research collaboration, global innovation and impact is possible. To make any progress in medicine or science, we must work together and not apart.”
