SPINE CENTERS AND FELLOWSHIPS
Spine Centers and Fellowships Officer's word
Fellowships Officer
In 2018 the Fellowship Program underwent several adjustments, rendering it appropriate to the international guidelines and to the regulatory requirements of the training centers. It began to emphasize and value the people who have been members for at least three years, increasing the number of places for continued education and complementation of training with the short-term fellowships and observerships.
The incentive to new members and to the formation of spine surgeons with the long-time fellowship now includes the AOSpine one-year membership, access to online activities and face-to-face theoretical courses.
The new training centers included in the last year will already receive fellows for 2019.
The program of visits to international centers is also undergoing adjustments. The first step was to open a call for a trauma fellowship in the USA (Harborview Medical Center, in Seattle) for all Latin American members, expanding the success of this program held previously in Argentina. The same process will be implemented for training in tumors, deformities and MISS.
Finally, we hope to repeat the success of the fellows’ meeting at our Regional Course in Santiago, in Chile.
Spine Centers
Our Spine Centers offer an opportunity to train surgeons with the principles, indications, planning, techniques, and complications in the areas of spine surgery performed at their center. We have providing a wide range of training opportunities for all spine pathologies. The AOSpine member can choose from a network of 15 spine centers in Latin America and more than 80 all over the world.
Fellowship Program
We invest heavily in fellowship programs and observation opportunities. Since 2011, we have trained almost 200 surgeons in our spine centers. The program provides additional experience in surgical techniques for fully trained orthopedic and neurosurgeons interested in spine surgery.
Short-term
One, two, three or six months training aimed at surgeons with more than one year of experience in spine surgery who want to improve a specific technique or further their knowledge of some of the spine pathologies. Financial support is provided.
Observerhip
Training in which the participant can take advantage of and use the networking provided by AOSpine as a visitor in a Spine Center to follow surgeries and specific procedures with outstanding professionals. The options are 3, 7 or 15 days.
Associate Fellow
Fellows at an AOSpine Spine Center are entitled to join the program as an Associate Fellow with no financial support. The participant can benefit from the AOSpine community network and will have free access to the AOSpine educational platform. The maximum length is 12 months.
